It’s that most wonderful time of the year (aside from Christmas) once again, the trailers are rolling out. First up, here are two from Square Enix that feature neither over-sized, unwieldy weaponry nor spiky-haired androgynous youths. Instead, we have two former Eidos franchises that have been absorbed into the Square Enix brand since the the latter purchased the former sometime in 2009.
First up, we have the Tomb Raider reboot/origin story, which is slated for release in March of next year. The footage shown here definitely has shades of Uncharted, which really isn’t a bad thing, if you ask me. Uncharted does owe Tomb Raider in terms of laying its groundwork, after all. One more thing worth noting, is the amount of punishment Lara Croft is put through in this trailer. Let me just say that if you don’t feel sorry for her at any point in this trailer, then you probably have no soul… or just simply hate Lara Croft.
Next up, is another old friend we haven’t seen in a while. Agent 47, that sharply-dressed, bald killing machine is back with Hitman Absolution. And in this “Attack of the Saints” trailer, it’s him versus a squad… of sexy nuns. Now, I’m no prude or in any way conservative, but there’s something uncomfortable about watching a single man with a clear physical advantage just plain wipe out a group of scantily-clad women with barely any effort. I mean, yeah, he probably did it in self defense, but I think the whole point of him being a stone-cold efficient killer would’ve still gotten through if they used something else, like say, a SWAT team? Hitman: Absolution makes its way into stores on November 20, with the PC version coming in way earlier, on August 1.
