MNL48 announced the Top 75 aspirants who will vie for the next stage of the competition on their Road to Final 48 today, January 27, on ABS-CBN’s leading noontime show, It’s Showtime.

After being presented live on national television for the first time last January 20, the Top 200 applicants who made it to the second stage were screened through a panel interview by Hallohallo Entertainment President Paulo Kurosawa, ABS-CBN Head for TV Production Mr. Laurenti Dyogi, ABS-CBN Chief Operating Officer Ms. Cory Vidanes, It’s Showtime Creative Director Mr. Jillmer Dy, and It’s Showtime Executive Producer Ms. Mercy Gonzales.
After a screening process, the panel of judges reduced the number of applicants going to the next round from 100 to just 75. The Top 75 applicants were revealed today one by one during the MNL48’s It’s Showtime segment.
Meanwhile, MNL48 also released the latest version of its website and mobile app to coincide with this big announcement. The system update includes the new voting system where registered supporters can only “Like” five candidates and the real-time ranking of the Top 75 finalists can finally be viewed.
These updates on the website and mobile app are in preparation for the next stage of the nationwide idol search, the “Road to Final 48”, and creation of the Philippines’ first generation of all-girl idol group, MNL48.
Moreover, new fans who wish to support their Oshi can only register through MNL48 Plus mobile app. Once fans have successfully created an account on the app, they can start using the MNL48 Plus mobile app to “Like” their Oshi. Meanwhile, the membership will not only be valid for voting, but also for receiving latest announcements and official fan club invitations, and will also serve as the fan’s General Election ID, and to be used for theatre ticket reservations. Pretty cool!
To create an account on MNL48 Plus, fill in the required fields with your valid information including your legal name, email address, mobile number, and authenticate your account through one-time SMS verification upon logging in on the app.

The MNL48 Online Update also featured the 75 candidates. The candidates talked about what they felt while the names are being called and their reactions when finally, their own name was called. They also related how surprised they were that the top 100 was reduced to just 75.
Reducing the number of candidates going to the next round actually made the proceedings that much intense. But these companies usually have the freedom to adjust the number of candidates they deem fit to go to the next round. If only this amount passed the panel judging, they are the only one who will go.
While I am extremely happy some of my bets got in, there’s a long road ahead of them. My bet, Ashley Cloud is currently leading, but there’s still two months between today and April and the first order of business is to get her on that weekly Top Ten list.
Many fans are also rooting for Sela. She rose quickly through the ranks and most of my friends are really rooting for her. She’s really beautiful and someone to watch out for.
MNL48 is just on the horizon. It’s coming and finally, the long wait will be over.
Some final thoughts: losing in an audition isn’t the end of the world. Many AKB48 members failed at least one audition before finally making it. Searching for answers you want to hear will make you miss the real answer staring right at you.
