Video games have always received flak from bringing violence to the world. Or “equipping” the youths of today to carry out heinous and violent acts. However, there’s another side of gaming that old-school parents these days often overlook, the educational aspect of video games.
Anino Games, the local game dev company famous for the creation of the first ever Filipino game, Anito has released an educational game that seeks to teach the youth about our own culture in a more interactive and fun way. Titled, as Jan Jan the Jeepney, players are then tasked to visit various places around the country in search of postcards that players need to collect.
Along the way, players are tasked to play mini-games in the form of spot the difference, find and click, 2D and 3D jigsaws, Rhythm games and Dress up and decorating games.
The game is tailored for kids 7 to 12 with an emphasis on low specs so that public high school students can get to play it on their computers regardless of it’s ancient specs.
The game is also littered with educational videos to further enhance the game’s educational use. The players are also mentored by an “Agila” and a “Tarsier” as they continue on journeying inside the game.
Jan Jan the Jeepney was conceptualized on 2005 and was launched at 2010 with the help of 50 developers within Anino Games, The Cultural Center of the Philippines and The Commission on Information and Communications Technology.
Here are some of the shots of the other mini-games the player will have to accomplish as he/she continues on playing:

JanJan the Jeepney should have a side-game that teaches EVERYONE jeepney routes in Manila. Crazy Taxi but Jeepney Routes. Because not everyone knows that Proj. 8 and Proj. 6 jeeps all pass by Roces St. in Quezon Ave. for those who need to go to Amoranto Stadium and those who want to go to 168 mall all have Divisoria from Baclaran, Monumento or Cubao bound jeeps but they don’t know that and ride taxis only to get stuck in Recto because Divisoria is now a walking street. Or just a racing game all over Manila XD featuring jeepneys and sidecars.
