What if Final Fantasy VIII had trophies?

What if Final Fantasy 8 had trophies?

I came up with that specific thought because FF7 was re-released this week with achievements. And then I thought, what if FF8 has achievements? Then a surge of ideas came out of my mind, hence, this post. But before I name my trophies, I just want to point out that the achievements in FF7 re-release are so lame. If Square-Enix wanted to milk this re-release, they might as well put more challenging achievements, right? Let’s say, Defeating the weapons individually will get you a bonus or something. I mean, seriously is that too much to ask? I’d suggest they added more twists in some of the achievements like ‘Beat Emerald weapon without KOTR ’ or something to that extent.

Geez, also consider that FF7 is already more than a decade old, gamers can easily go through the achievements effortlessly. Anyway, enough of FF7, let’s talk about FF8 if it has achievements.

So let’s start the list.

Bronze:

Opposite attract : Use Shiva against Ifrit
Bingo!: Win 5 consecutive times in a card game
Capiche: Win a card game without flipping your cards
Selphie’s dream band: Form a Band with Selphie
Ice steak: Perform Edea’s Limit Break
Dynamic Trio: Perform the limit breaks of Laguna, Kiros and Ward
Rinoa’s Best friend: Obtain an Item with Angelo
Loving GF: Mastered at least 10 GF abilities
Yellow Fellow: Ride a chocobo
Finders Keepers: Lose a GF card and win it back
Sky’s the limit: Boost a GF up to 250
Grim Reaper: Stock 100 death spells
Academic achiever: Obtain the highest SeeD rank
Key Junctioner: Junction every possible magic to any attribute
3 to go: Complete Disc 1

Silver:

Let’s get it on!: Get the 6 final weapons
Fund it!: Finish the CC Group quest
Wicked breath: Kill 25 Marlboros
Living on a jet plane: Return to Ragnarok in Disc4
Teacher Quistis: Get all the Blue Magic Spells
Zell’s passion: Collect all the Combat King Magazines
Irvine’s gone mad: Use at least 5 Hyper Shots against an enemy
Challenge accepted: Defeat Ultima Weapon
Curse, curse all SeeDs!: Reach the maximum levels of 6 main characters
Well done: Complete Disc 2 and 3

Gold:

Power house: Get all Guardian Forces to max levels
Royal flush: Obtain all the character cards
Rusty sword: Make Gilgamesh perform Excalipoor
Here comes a new challenger: Defeat Omega Weapon
The End: Finish the Game

Platinum:

Legendary SeeD: Get all the trophies

—

Hidden Trophies:

Bronze:
Piece of revenge: KO Seifer with your character when he’s on your party

Silver:
Extra-terrestrial Pupu : Get the Pupu card
Unknown: Finish the Obel lake quest

Gold:
Tough guy Squall:
Defeat Omega Weapon with Squall only
Show’s over: Finish Omega Weapon with Selphie’s ‘The End’
Equilibrium: Finish the Game with your Characters level 25 or below

Some of you might think that some trophies are too hard or insane (especially the hidden golds), but that’s the point of achievements right? If you played FF13, there are lots of insane trophies there. FF8 has a lot to offer when it comes to missions, character, stories, sidequests and etc. So I just included what’s hypothetical in my opinion.

So here’s what we’re going to do, remember the last time you played FF8? Take a look back on the list and count how many trophies you got or maybe you got a suggestion for the achievement? Sound off at the comments section!
