Most of the people playing Diablo II probably moved up and went playing the third installment, but there’s still a healthy community of gamers still loyal to the venerable classic. Now, to show Blizzard’s love for the said community, the gaming behemoth just released an update to keep things running in tip top shape.
“This update focuses on system glitches introduced by modern operating systems. In related news, you can finally retire those old Mac PowerPCs. Included with the update is a shiny new installer for OSX,” reads the official post for patch 1.14a.
Well, fancy that. Diablo II’s latest patch before this one was back in October 2011. That’s about.. almost five years since then.
It seems Blizzard is currently hard at work at HQ. The company says that it’s stepping up its game in detecting cheaters and preventing hackers. Blizzard also says that there’s still loads of work to be done, so we might see another patch or two in the coming months, or maybe years but we can’t really tell.
“There is still a large Diablo II community around the world, and we thank you for continuing to play and slay with us. This journey starts by making Diablo II run on modern platforms, but it does not end there.“
It’s nice to know that beloved classics like Diablo II are still getting continued support from its developers. We’ve grown fond of Diablo II over the years despite its sequel taking over the world by storm. Call it nostalgia goggles or whatever you will, it doesn’t change the fact that it’s still one of the best games even to this date. Thanks, Blizzard!
