Renders of AMD’s AM5 socket for their Zen4 CPUs have surfaced online. This marks the first socket change from AMD and a significant one at that as it is their first LGA socket for MSDT. The Zen4 architecture will be an architecture milestone for AMD as it introduces further architectural improvement over Zen3.
AMD’s Zen3+ refresh is still unclear so Zen4 could take priority and AMD may debut their Zen4 chips on their Ryzen 6000 along with a new socket. AMD is reportedly planning to use an LGA-1718 socket as depicted in the renders with a similar retention mechanism to those found on Intel.
