After announcing the much awaited Radeon Navi RX 5700 series GPUs accompanied with some first look demos, AMD wraps up with the release of their Ryzen 9 3950X CPU. A 16 core solution from AMD has always been expected as hinted by the die reveal back when the Zen 2 Architecture was first previewed at CES 2019.
The Ryzen 9 3950X packs 16 cores and 32 threads with a 3.5Ghz base clock up to a 4.7Ghz Boost Clock. The boost clock is the highest we’ve seen so far in AMD’s CPU offering. The 3950X packs 72MBs of total Cache(we’re guessing combined L2 and L3) all in a 105W TDP package.
The Ryzen 3950X breaks world records starting with Cinebench R20 16-Core with a score of 12,167. Followed by 65499 points of Geekbench 4 Multithread 16-Core World record. Overclocks were able to achieve a clock speed of 5.3Ghz with LN2 Cooling with only using Ryzen Master after setting the CPU voltage in the BIOS.
Unfortunately, the Ryzen 9 3950X will not be available on the same day as the Ryzen 3000 series and Radeon RX 5700 series as the 3950X behemoth will launch in September. Moreover, a $749 price tag is certainly cheap compared to HEDT solutions but is on the pricey side based on the mainstream enthusiast market.
