This will be really quick. Now, if you’ve got just about a few moments of your time to go through this, we would like to present you with the winners of our recently concluded (if you still consider a whole week ‘recent’) Back2Beatdown on-site tournaments at ToyCon last weekend. We held tourneys for two games, one on each day of the event. Up on tap were Super Street Fighter IV and Marvel VS Capcom 3. Some competed for fame, some competed for glory… and some others joined up because I lied about a horde of Japanese schoolgirls being the top prize. Anyway, hit the jump to take a look at the winners. You’ll notice a pretty interesting coincidence.First up, for our Super Street Fighter IV tournament was won by none other than Batman. We just need to get this out there… he’s the winner this tournament deserves, but not the one it needs right now. Actually, it’s Tim Villasor from Pop Culture Crusader. He rode all the way to the finals with Gouken in a matchup against Jigs and his Ken and prevailed in the end. Some of us here would like to believe that the sheer fact that is was the gosh darn Batman (we’re trying to be family friendly to some extent) Jigs was facing was a major factor in the finals.
Next up, we have Ryan, dressed up as what we believe would be Shinjirou from Persona 3. Not to put our own previous tournament down, but the crowd for the Marvel tournament was basically Woodstock to the previous day’s Wimbledon. Then again, MVC3 IS a rather crazy game, so I guess we can chalk it up to that. Ryan here fought his way up the ranks with a team consisting of Super Skrull, Taskmaster, and Sentinel. In the finals, he went up against Koji and his team of Zero, Amaterasu and Sentinel. There’s no doubt the match was awesome as the two clashed all the way into the final round and down to their last respective characters. To say the crowd was hyped is an understatement. In the end, Ryan claimed victory over Koji.
The winners, as per our last post, received a Razer l33t pack, shirt, and flashing pendant. The second placers’ efforts did not go unrewarded, too. Jigs and Koji, for their valiant efforts, each got a Razer l33t pack and flashing pendant. To everyone who joined, you all put up a good fight and we hope to see you next time we hold another one of these.
On a final note, if you haven’t noticed the pattern yet, then yes, both our tournaments were won by people in costume/cosplayers/call ’em what you like. Pretty awesome in our book, if you ask us.
