Its been almost a year since we’ve been teased with 500hz monitors but CES 2023 gave us the first confirmation of upcoming 500hz monitors with the speed actually getting bumped to 540hz. During COMPUTEX 2023, ASUS ROG showed off a demo pitting 144hz alongside a 540hz monitor, specifically their upcoming ROG Swift PG248QP.
I had to stare at this display for a good while to differentiate the actual feel but at a setting like this in public, it was a biut hard to pickup and feel difference. The sensation isn’t as immediately noticeable although I do have a 360hz monitor which I can confirm I can differentiate from 165hz immediately.
Perhaps its the demo as only the sprites are moving which, while not bad, shouldn’t be the only visual indicator of visual fidelity.
Regardless, ASUS ROG’s E-TN panel can deliver 540hz at 1080p but some will scoff at the thought of having a TN panel in 2023 but from this angle, you can see that the viewing angle doesn’t go bad immediately with plenty of viewing angle if you that’s your only issue with TN. I still won’t convince you to dual-wield it for client-facing multimedia or print projects but its enough for a daily driver for most gamers.
ASUS is preparing this monitor for launch soon and should coincide with NVIDIA’s new esports technology also announced at COMPUTEX 2023.
