Nvidia Announces Gtx 1660 Ti And 1650 For Laptops

RTX equipped gaming laptops are expensive for the average consumer. Most RTX laptops come in either a slim form factor or with a high refresh rate screen. Both contribute to the RTX laptop’s luxurious pricing. To put it into numbers, an RTX 2060 powered laptop ranges from $1,700 to $2,000+The GTX 16 series has proven to be a value alternative for gamers who are due for an upgrade but don’t want to pay for Real-Time Ray Tracing. Nvidia is now bringing the value option to gamers as they officially unveil the laptop variants for the GTX 1660 Ti and GTX 1650.

Nvidia Announces Gtx 1660 Ti And 1650 For Laptops
GTX 960M vs GTX 1660 Ti

The GTX 1660 Ti is the next big thing after the RTX 2060 with its impressive 1080p gaming capabilities paired with a competitive price. It aims to replace users with GTX 960M laptops, offering these users a 4x performance boost. GTX 1660 Ti laptops will start at $999 or Php 50,000 which is around half of the starting price of RTX 2060 laptops. Unlike the RTX 2060 gaming laptops, we will most likely see Core i5 or Ryzen 5 powered units and even variants with only 4GB RAM to reach its $999 competitive pricing.

GTX 1660 Ti Specifications

Base Clock (Mhz)1500 1140 – 1445
Boost Clock (Mhz)17701335 – 1590

Memory Speed (Gbps)12 Gbps12 Gbps
Standard Memory Config6GB GDDR66GB GDDR6
Memory Interface Width192-bit192-bit
Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec)288288

Based on the Specifications listed above, the mobile GTX 1660 Ti is downclocked by only 360 Mhz on the lowest mobile clock speed compared to its desktop version while laptops with better cooling only have a 50Mhz variance in terms of the base clock. Unlike the mobile versions of the RTX GPUs, the GTX 1660 Ti will likely generate framerates closer to its desktop version with greater power efficiency by about 40-60 watts. We have yet to see if the GTX 1660 Ti for laptops will have a Max-Q variant, which is very likely as seen with the GTX 1060.

GTX 1650

The GTX 1650 is the first ever GPU that’s launched on the same day for the desktop and laptop models. Just like the other GTX 16 series GPUs, the GTX 1650 doesn’t have a founders edition. Starting at $150 for the desktop, gaming laptops sporting the GTX 1650 will start at $799. Nvidia’s latest addition to the 16 series aims to replace the Maxwell-architecture GTX 950M and the Pascal-based GTX 1050 with a performance increase of 2.5x and 1.7x, respectively. The GTX 1650 only consumes around 35 – 50 watts making it a perfect pair for ULV processors as well as thin and light laptops such as the XPS 15, ROG Zephyrus
