Last June, Square Enix unveiled Samurai Rising which they dubbed as the “ultimate action RPG”. The game was available on smartphones and was a promising title which had similarities with Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles and is as Final Fantasy as you can get without being an FF game but still have those elements which make it unique yet familiar at the same time e.g. job classes like White Mage, Black Mage, Dragoons, etc.
Less than a year into operation and the Square Enix is announcing that Samurai Rising will be terminating services on July 14, 2017. In the official announcement, the company states that it indeed had the effort to bring good overall service for the game and its playerbase but many challenges along the way in maintaining what they refer to and consider as “satisfactory service”, the company decided it would be best to conclude the game’s operation. There’s plenty of similar games out there on many platforms such as fantasyadventureslots.com and a slew of other online games out there.
Square Enix has been striving to make a dent in the mobile market for games which has been one of the most profitable market for games in recent times. Despite highly successful franchises under their library of IPs, there hasn’t been a really breakout title for the company and this is still one that they have been heavily targeting in recent years.
Many of Square Enix hit titles include Final Fantasy with recent successes Final Fantasy XV one of the crowning achievement for the company in recent times. Add to this the heavily anticipated Final Fantasy VII HD Remaster which is one of the most symbolic games for the modern generation of gamers. For their other endeavors though, Squeenix has been falling short with the likes of Samurai Rising facing demise from a very flaky audience. Still, Square Enix is quite healthy and its other projects are still looking up with plenty of potential to still gain some sizable market if and when it finally cracks that successful mobile game release.
This is isn’t really a surprise as devs have been quite open about the bad rap of the game and literally rapping about the issues that plagued the title in numerous updates from Square Enix themselves. Squeenix has been quite the fan company lately despite its corporate tyrant rep since their humble roots as Squaresoft and Enix in the old 16-bit days.
Samurai Rising was launched in Japan on June 2, 2016 for iPhone and Android.
