Capitalizing on renewed interest brought about by the new film and related material courtesy of the marketing prowess of Disney, Hasbro and others have unveiled new action figures to satisfy the collecting urges of Star Wars fanatics.
First, we go to Hasbro, the current premium Star Wars toy manufacturer in the States. Weak paint-apps and small issues aside, their upcoming Black Series 6″ promises to have solid releases. Some of the much-awaited figures were unveiled this past New York Comic Con, and for me the best surprise was Han Solo based from his appearance in The Force Awakens. I liked how good the prototype looked, which was to be expected, as Hasbro never really had any difficulty with capturing Harrison Ford’s likeness. I was pretty disappointed with General Hux as Dominhall Gleeson’s likeness didn’t translate well to the figure, although the rest of the figure was fine.

Hasbro also presented CAD images of other figures such as the winner of the Fan’s Choice poll, Darth Revan from the Knights of the Old Republic video games, and Sabine Wren from Star Wars Rebels TV series. Darth Revan looks pretty nice, but my money is still on Sabine Wren.
Bandai’s SH Figuarts Star Wars line is growing strong. Their most recent announcement is their take on Captain Phasma. Hasbro did a pretty nice Phasma on their 6″ line, but Bandai seems poised to knock them off their perch. Also, check out that Shadow Trooper.
And speaking of Captain Phasma, Kotobukiya has released official photos of the ARTX Captain Phasma statue. Here are some of the images.
Medicom finally released their MAFEX Darth Vader last September 30 after a delay of 9 months. The figure looks great based on the few You Tube reviews I’ve seen so far. It certainly is much taller than the Figuarts and the Black series Vader, but not too tall that it can’t be used with the Figuarts Luke Skywalker although based on MAFEX’s aesthetics, I can’t wait for them to have their own Jedi Luke as well.

Medicom also unveiled the next in line after the Stormtrooper: MAFEX Boba Fett. Yes, the famous Bounty Hunter is going to have a MAFEX release. Let’s just hope it doesn’t get delayed for 9 months like Vader did.
