CLOSER LOOK
Antec packages the EarthWatts Platinum in a simple cardboard packaging. Simple details are on the front indicating wattage amongst others. On the back we can see the feature list in multiple languages and on the sides are the ratings and a comparative table of different efficiencies. Inside the packaging, the product is protected with two cardboard inserts that support the power supply inside and protect it from damage.
Here we have the EarthWatts Platinum 550w. Power supplies aren’t really known for their looks (although some look so much sexier than others) and most of the time they will look the same. The EarthWatts Platinum comes in a matte black colored body with black 120mm fan serving as intake to cool the internal components.
Checking out the back, we see a mostly hex-grilled exhaust with a On/Off switch and the AC power connector.
Around the power supply nothing much of interest except the usual power graph sticker indicating output capacities
As a 550w capacity non-modular model, this power supply doesn’t particularly have a lot of connectors but its got the most basic down. You won’t be hooking up two GTX680s to this baby since it only has 2 6+2 PCI-E power connectors. Still curious though why PSU makers still include a floppy drive connector. All cables are sleeved and gives the power supply a very clean look.
The Teardown
Now we’re no JonnyGuru but we’re gonna present you a look inside the power supply.
