Overclocking
I’m reintroducing overclocking soon but I’m putting this here as an exploratory start. Anyway, GPU overclocking isn’t as rewarding as it once was but that’s becasuse modern GPUs take full advantage of their thermal headroom to really push what they can. Unfortunately, GPUs are also restricted heavily in terms of increasing voltage past a certain point so even if you have exotic cooling, you really won’t be able to push the GPU unless you perform extensive mods, both on the PCB and the BIOS.
If you’re just after a daily overclock, there are numerous ways to ensure you’re GPU is getting the most that it can do. One such feature is the OC scanner tool on most GPU overclocking utility. It scans your GPU and finds an optimal OC bump.
It is quite conservative though even on the very well-cooled ROG Strix RTX 4080 SUPER, it only gave me a modest memory OC and an even more modest +75Mhz on the GPU. This is the OC setting used to get the score below. Manually pushing the GPU, I feel I can go past 2900Mhz but we’re limited at how much ASUS’ GPU Tweak slider can take us. I’ll explore this more in a future update but bumping up the ROG Strix RTX 4080 OC in either the Power Limit or the GPU/Mem Clock doesn’t even make our card heat up any more than its current temp.

I often wonder if Asus really deserves their huge price premium versus the likes of Inno3D, Zotac and Palit
Tough question. Some people really buy into the brand and feel good owning one. I’m a Zotac guy but only because I prefer their warranty for reference cards versus Palit.
Miguel Araneta similar sentiments. Just add Php 10K+ and you can already get the RTX 4090.
John Francis Gamao yup. Even for their cheaper cards, I think the ROG and TUF 4070 Supers are not that far from the price of Palit and Inno3D 4070 Ti Supers (around 5-6K difference).
Miguel Araneta the TUF non OC model is good to buy if someone really likes Asus brand. It’s close to PH’s SRP but I’ll avoid the OC version of it. OC version price is an additional 8-9K for a measly 1-3 FPS difference.
