Introduction
Call of Duty Modern Warfare is getting a reboot this 2019 and the open beta for the game has been available over the weekend. We spent some time benchmarking the game’s current build which is looking ready for release at this stage. Do take note that NVIDIA heavily advertises this game as an RTX title but the beta does not have RTX features enabled. Also, the public beta gameplay is only in multiplayer mode, possibly as a server load test as well as to catch bugs before the October 25th release of the game. The game will be available on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One and will support crossplay across all platforms.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare is a rebooted release of the game’s most well-known franchise. Featuring the iconic Capt. Price, the game is set in a modern setting and will feature a more realistic theme versus its predecessor’s heavily thematic angle. The story mainly revolves around Capt. Price and is set in a world where the events of the original Modern Warfare have never occurred. Not much has been around the plot but the game is set to unify single-player campaign, co-op, and multiplayer into one cohesive storyline.
In this article, we’ll focus on the PC platform and share with some performance numbers that we’ve taken during the beta. Its a topical look at the game’s performance and do note that some things may or will be added after launch e.g. Microsoft DXR aka raytracing. We’ll take a look at various graphics card to give you a glimpse at how the game scales between each card.
Detail Options
As always, we set the game to its maximum settings for this benchmark. The game has a lot of options to play around with the improve visual fidelity or eye candy. As of this moment there is no DXR settings in game.

Here are some gameplay footage recorded via external capture system. I was planning to use MSI Afterburner with graphs but FrameApp viewer by NVIDIA was running and I didn’t want to encounter potential issues.

As there is no way to test uniformly in this game, we’ve taken a large sample of test runs and averaged them out. The data is then fed to the NVIDIA’s FrameApp analyzer which we’ve modified to take-in up to six GPUs. Thank you to NVIDIA for this template and we’ll be creating our own tool from this in the future.

Thoughts and Impressions
As we did this test in around the last few hours of the beta, there was really a lot that could’ve been added but we’re looking at this at the main launch when the game comes out at October. The main take here is that the game is incredibly smooth and polished, performance-wise on PC. At 1080p, the lowest card in our test is the GTX 1060 6GB which chugged out great numbers at past 60FPS. We tried to scrounge up a GTX 1050 Ti but we’ll save that for the main release.
Further tests are needed especially for CPU-usage but as it is right now, this game looks promising from an adoption standpoint. Much of the settings are adapted from older titles which adjust as needed to your specs so there’s really little fiddling for non-tech savvy gamers. For those that do, there are plenty to toy around especially if you’re gunning for that 144FPS or better frame rate. Starting from the RTX 2060, the game looks very competitive at 1080p and fiddling with settings should give it a consistent 144FPS framerate. The possibility of lowering render resolution is also possible to make things smoother at the expense of image quality.
Let us know in the comments what you wanna see tested once the game comes out.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019 lands on PC at October 25.
