Conclusion
Whenever we review things at B2G Labs, we always make sure that the brand name doesn’t affect our review rating and stick to just looking at the product’s performance, and then how it compares to its direct competition, if any. After all, some huge names have produced some stinkers and some unknowns have wowed us. However, we’re not blind to the fact that a lot of people merely go for a brand name. With the Gamdias Hermes it definitely counts as a product from a brand you’re unlikely to have heard from before.
By basing the Hermes around the Cherry MX switches, a lot of our work has already been done for us. You’re all very aware by now of how excellent they are.
Damping a mechanical keyboard’s noise is always nice, especially in an environment where lots of typing is done and that’s where the GAMDIAS element counts. The Hermes is only available with Cherry MX Blue as far as what their website states about the product thus making as ask why blue? Well we can’t answer that since we do not know the answer as well.
BossMac’s Notes:Â Different companies will have different perspectives on what they feel is suitable for a gaming keyboard’s choice of switch. While Cherry MX Red are deemed the gamer’s choice for their rapid response, the wide variety of available keys to fit other preferences make it a tougher choice for anyone buying a keyboard. In the case of the GAMDIAS Hermes, the choice of Cherry MX Blue should be a nice balance to please the general gaming crowd as well as hardcore ones as the Cherry MX Blue switches themselves are very responsive, with the added benefit of tactile and aural feedback for key press confirmation.
The HERMES at closer inspection looks like a redesign of the BlackWidow Ultimate from the brand that will not be mentioned here with GAMDIAS giving it a whole new look, feel and features. Macro keys, extra large wrist-rest, rich customization software, they all come together to provide a complete package with extras you can’t find elsewhere. GAMDIAS’ eye for detail is just superior.
The inclusion of so many macro keys on the Hermes means that it’s actually very much a gaming keyboard that promotes fingertip style of typing.
The lighting is great, the macro keys are within easy reach. The logo and lock indicators are a nice shade of yellow and the headphone/microphone ports are shown clearly too. The software is outstanding and it’s actually one of the best we’ve seen on any keyboard. The build quality of the keyboard is great too.
One thing that really bothered me with this keyboard is the USB Plug. The USB plug of the Hermes requires more space unlike any other USB plugs. That’s why you cannot plug in the USB ports side by side when plugging this keyboard at the back of your computer.
Nonetheless, the Hermes gets a B2G Gold for its overall performance and quality and a B2G Performance for providing and enhancing its Cherry MX Blue switch with the use of their own patented GAMDIAS Element.
