In a market like gaming peripherals, there’s only so much you you can put into these mice before everything starts looking outlandish. In terms of pure performance though, companies have only a couple of options and the most notable one is of course, sensor performance. While many may argue the real world benefits of high-DPI sensitivity, we can’t also rule out the improved tracking and precision that new sensors bring to the table. Logitech has recently released their highest performing sensor capable of tracking 500″ per second dubbed the Fusion Engine which features a hybrid sensor and this exact sensor has been baked into the new Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury. Let’s check out the Hyperion Fury and see if it delivers well in both precision and speed.

Closer Look
Logitech has a new packaging style right now which is a more subdued version of what they used to package their products ca. 2012. The new packaging features a brighter blue with a very techy glamour shot of the product on the front. The back of the box highlights some of the main features of the Logitech G402. Opening up the box we have a simple package of the Logitech G402 and documentations.
The Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury features a long and narrow design. Its basically a heavily-stylized G400 featuring the more modern design of Logitech Gaming products. The top of the Logitech G402 shows us a mix of the soft-matte coating and plastic trims that decorate the Hyperion Fury. Flipping over the G402, we get to see the laser sensor surrounded by an ornate arrangement of the teflon feet.
Looking around the Logitech G402, we can see the really elaborate design that Logitech has used on this mouse. The glossy plastic cuts along the otherwise all-matte texture and the pattern gives it a really high-tech look. While the plastic gloss may give it a cheap feel, the soft touch matte coat really changes that perception especially when held.
The shape of the Logitech G402 is similar to the Razer Taipan: its slim and long but unlike the Taipan, the Logitech G402 doesn’t feature an ambidextrous but chooses to go with better ergonomics.
The on-the-fly DPI switcher is located on the far trip of the left click button and adjusts the DPI levels in real time. This increments can be set via the configuration software (more on that later) and out of the box, you have a total of 4 settings enabled. There are also extra side buttons readily accessible from your thumb and there’s a Snipe button which like the Corsair Vengeance M65 we’ve looked at before, drops down the DPI to very low settings while held to allow precision aiming.
User Experience & Conclusion
First off we want to point out that our tests were conducted with out-of-box settings because Logitech’s Gaming Software isn’t currently available for 64-bit OSes. That said, the highest DPI setting out of box was fine for us (around 1600-1800) and we’ve mentioned it numerous times that there is a very small number of people that will actually use 3000+ DPI levels.
We’re testing the Logitech G402 on both hard and soft surfaces namely the Ozone Lepton and Roccat Sense. Both surfaces feature smooth, semi-precise surfaces and should be a good base for our Logitech G402.
Gripping the Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury for the first time, the ergonomics really make the mouse feel as if it was molded for your personally. People with large hands could argue otherwise but for the average person, the size and shape of the mouse is adequate and doesn’t have any protruding edges nudging on the skin of your palm despite the somewhat edgy look of the thumb grip. And by edgy I meant its edges look sharp. Overall though, the G402 is very comfortable and feels good in the hand.
Tracking in our chosen DPI setting feels good and accurate and complements well with my finger-grip style. The DPI switcher allows fast transition between sensitivity settings and gives the user flexibility in varying situation especially in FPS games where accuracy counts. The DPI shift button adds another level of control to the sensitivity but the placement of the thumb button is too far off for some to reach and we hope Logitech moves this button further to the middle of the thumb rest for better access.
Overall the Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury shows off two things that really make it pop: first is its combination of performance, comfort and quality and secondly its price. Priced at around $60, it is heavily contending with the Corsair Vengeance M65 along with a slew of other mouse in this margin but as we’ve mentioned, the M65 and G402 are the most notable rivals in this bracket due to their high-quality offerings in the same price range. In the case of the Logitech G402, it edges out the M65 with its higher precision sensor, more accessible DPI switcher and a more traditional style that welcomes better ergonomics.
All in all, the Logitech G402 is a solid gaming mouse if you’re looking for something that has highly-tuned sensor settings and lets your tailor it accordingly. The easily accessible DPI switcher makes it a touch more quicker to make sensitivity changes in the heat of battle. If you’re looking for a high-performance gaming mouse that’s priced just right without all the bloat of “gaming” brands then the Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury is a top choice.
Logitech backs the G402 Hyperion Fury with a 2 year warranty. We give the Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury our B2G Editor’s Choice Award and B2G Value Award.
