We’ve got a couple of gaming mice here from Tt eSports and we’re really happy to once again be checking out some of the newer products from the company after a while since our last review of their gaming mouse. Time’s passed and a lot of tech has come up in the peripheral scene and curiously we’ll be checking out two distinct examples of how these new tech are being applied now. For this review we’ll take a look at a real advancement in terms of features with the Theron Plus smart mouse.
The Theron Plus, as the name implies, is an improvement to the original Theron. Retaining the original design, Tt eSports improves on the Theron by integrating an IOT concept which allows the Theron Plus to record gameplay and usage data. This data can be uploaded to a cloud server where you can compare and analyze the information, taking into consideration the conditions at which you’re playing and take action to improve your gameplay. We’ll take a closer look at the Theron Plus and see how it performs as well as how the IOT helps us.

Packaging
The Theron Plus is packaged in a black box with bold images of the mouse along with a smart phone displaying the app and its features in the front. While most would opt for just a glamor shot of the product, Tt eSports is obviously boasting its smart capabilities, going as far as displaying both Google and Apple app store logos in the front. Note that Apple have very stringent App Store requirements so this means Tt eSports has poured some time into their software as well. Aside from that there’s plenty of other features highlighted here including the RGB illumination and the 8200DPI capable sensor.
Bundled with the Theron Plus is a carrying pouch, documentation and some Tt eSports Dragon stickers.
Closer Look – Theron Plus
I know what you’re thinking? It’s glossy. SUPER GLOSSY. We’ll get to that part in a bit, first let’s check out what we have here. The Theron Plus is a semi-wide gaming mouse giving it a larger gripping area making it easy to palm. The top shell of the Theron Plus is mostly unibody with the red DPI buttons breaking up the glossy look. At the base, there are two teflon feet that help the Theron Plus glide along surfaces. A pair of profile and polling rate buttons are found at the base of the Theron Plus where you can instantly switch profiles and polling rate on the fly without touching the software UI. Great for quick in-game changes during round changes or after deaths. There’s a small tab beneath also which we’ll look into in a bit.
From the sides, we can see the lower vertical profile of the Theron Plus. This mouse is intended for RTS games and this design fits well letting the mouse have a more relaxed feel to it. As you can see there is not a shred of matte in this mouse which means the design and curves do all the grip ergonomics.
Lifting up the tab cover on the underside of the mouse reveals five 4.5g weight studs which you can remove to adjust the weight of the Theron Plus by 4.5gram increments.
The Theron Plus has individual LED lights for its rear base, sides, logo and scroll wheel. Each of these can be individually set via software. An indicator LED is also along the left side of the mouse. You can see some of the colors from our GIF image below:
Software
The Theron Plus Software (free to download here) is where most of the heavy lifting for configuration happens. You can set up the DPI levels, click speeds and cursor speed for the Theron Plus in the Performance tab along with the polling rate. As mentioned above also, you can tweak the lighting individually or in uniform to give your Theron Plus a tailored look. Macro key recording as well as key customization are also present for custom functions should you need it. There are three extra buttons which you can program on the Theron along with the standard left and right click buttons. All of these settings can be saved individually as a profile with the Theron Plus Software capable of storing up to 5 internally in the Theron Plus mouse itself so you can bring your profiles along with you anywhere, just use the profile switch at the base of the mouse to use the one you like. Its advisable to assign custom colors for each one so you can determine which is which without checking out the software.
Now let’s move on to what really makes this mouse different.
You can set up the Theron Plus to connect with your smartphone via bluetooth. Download the app below:
Tt eSports Plus+ Download – ANDROID
Tt eSporets Plus+ Download – iOS
Once installed, open up the app and it will ask you to connect to a device. Look for your Theron Plus mouse in the device list and tap to proceed. Once connected select an activity and start recording your session. Once your session is up, you can hit stop on your smartphone and save your session. You can also upload your session to Facebook and Twitter to compare with friends. Note that you need to record at least 1 minute of data for the app to save your session. Also if you’re having trouble detecting the Theron Plus on your smartphone, you can press on the Profile and Polling Rate buttons simultaneously to reset the signal.
User Experience & Conclusion
There’s plenty to say about the Theron Plus so let’s break it down for our final verdict:
Performance. We’ve all heard nothing but good things about the new AVAGO sensor and Tt eSports utilizes it well with the Theron Plus with the mouse providing good feedback as well as solid tracking. We’re comfortable just below 3200DPI but for those that have a need for 8200DPI you’d be glad to know the Theron Plus still feels smooth at those higher ranges. Like the Ventus X, this mouse feels much better on a hard mat, regardless if control or speed.
Build Quality. While many would really find the glossy surface concerning, it makes more sense for Tt eSports to have adopted the full glossy style than mix some matte rubber pads in there for grip. Truth be told, the Theron Plus is easy to grip without the need for coats with the ergonomic design basically handle that department by itself, pun intended. While it is a fingerprint magnet, the gloss can take a beating and doesn’t scratch easily. The metallic gloss also gives it a more premium feel than competing gloss mice in the market.
Functionality. The use of onboard memory gives the Theron Plus a certain flexibility that some mouse have completely dropped because of cloud storage, while that may be in advantage on a whole picture there are still instances when onboard profiles make sense. The bigger picture here is the smart functions and IOT concept, while Tt eSports may have other plans with your data the reality is you’re not parting with anything you don’t want show either. Basically you’re just logging APMs here and for any StarCraft pro, improving your APM is one of the keys to success. Tt eSports just focused on the science behind it and utilized a solid concept to work with it. A nice touch.
Bundle. We got stickers and a pouch!
Value. The Tt eSports Theron Plus is priced at $69 making it a competitor in the mainstream ranks of gaming mice. In this segment, it competes with other high-performance products and right now the main draw for crowds besides performance is gimmicks. While many of these feature RGB functions and other stuff, Tt eSports extends that with its smart functions giving it a bit of an edge for those looking for something a bit more sophisticated in terms of features.
Overall, the Tt eSports Theron Plus brings together some really cool features with a tried-and-tested design so that even those who don’t want to bother with the smart applications can benefit from a high-performance gaming mouse. Those who do find a need to record their mouse usage data will be happy to know that the data recording doesn’t hamper gameplay and performance and with the data working on your phone, CPU usage on your PC isn’t also a concern which we feel is also a good choice. While it may feel complex for those who aren’t into these kinds of things, it doesn’t take away much from the Theron Plus being an already functional and good-performing gaming mouse.
