Tesoro Aegis X4 Gaming Mouse Pad Review

THE SHIELD OF ZEUS

Aegis, was the name of the shield carried by Zeus. It represents as a garment of goatskin, or an armored breastplate protecting you from all elemental attack!

OVERVIEW
AEGIS series adopt the most updated 3D fabric techniques, with its high texture density and ultra smooth surface, effectively improve the capture sensitivity for optical or laser gaming mice. It also provides ultra smooth gliding experience for gaming mouse use.

The package of the Aegis X4 is pretty much like any other gaming mouse pad on the market. The box is a long rectangular box that features a black and purple color theme. The front box highlights the stylized name of Aegis, origin of the name Aegis, and the main features of the mouse pad.

Img_6363

The back of the box displays the main specification of the mousepad in a number of languages. The bottom part of the back of the box displays the compliance, package content, Tesoro logo, and neo code. Nothing special to see. The top part highlights the stylized graphics of the product name.

Img_6362

The left side of the box features a cut out sample of the Aegis so gamers and anyone interested can feel the Aegis itself without opening the box. The left side also highlights package content, a short message from Tesoro, and a more detailed information about the fabric that Tesoro equipped with their Aegis X3 and X4.

A CLOSER LOOK OF THE CUT-OUT SAMPLE

Img_6369 (2)

The cut-out sample that’s displayed at the left side of the box is pretty shiny and smooth. We will check out later on if the actual Aegis X4 itself is really like this.

The top and bottom side of the box features the graphically stylized name of the Aegis and the logo of Tesoro. Nothing special to see. Let’s move on.

Img_6365

The right side of the box highlights the main specification of the Aegis X4 and also features the dimension of the Aegis X3 and Aegis X4. There seems to be a huge difference in terms of dimension between the Aegis X3 and X4.

Img_6314 (2)

The Aegis X4 comes with one Tesoro product brochure and one warranty card. Let’s go ahead and check out the Aegis X4 itself.

Aegis X4 Gaming Mouse Pad

Img_6339 (2)

The Aegis X4 is measured 17.3(L) x 14.6(W) x 0.12(H) inch and features a uniquely-smooth surface texture. It is also shiny because of  Tesoro’s own “3D Fabric” technics for ultra smooth gliding which I personally think that it may involve some sort of a coating, given the way it shimmers. This is the smoothest and shiniest mouse pad I have ever used.

One thing that will surely grab your attention when you see an Aegis X4 is Tesoro’s purple and black logo which is lightly emblazoned over the surface of Aegis X4. I also like that the Aegis X4 is stitched neatly and tightly.  The Aegis X4 features an edgy contours which matches the styling of Tesoro’s keyboards nicely and brings a spice to the otherwise boring square mouse pad.

Img_6338 (2)

The rubber bottom has a zig-zag pattern that provides an enhance traction to the surface so that the mouse pad won’t make any unnecessary movements. The rubber bottom actually does a great job and it’s very consistent through out most of the surface specially in wood tables but it seems to have a tough time holding itself in its position when placed in smooth surfaces like marble surface or plain hard plastic surface.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Img_6330The Aegis X4 is 0.12 inch in thickness so flexibility might be an issue if you want a flexible on-the-go type of mouse pad. This mouse pad is very thick actually and personally I thick that it such thickness adds up to its overall quality. By means of how Tesoro design it. Like literally how a shield should be. Thick enough to protect the user but light enough to wield it with ease.

Img_6340 (2)

This mouse pad doesn’t want to be folded because it tends to revert back flat to the surface. I mean it’s probably normal cause of its thickness but by natural flexibility, you can’t fold the mouse pad anymore than this.

Final Thoughts

Img_6343 (2)

I’ve been using the Aegis X4 gaming mouse pad for about a month and I can say that it’s consistent and smooth even though I’ve used it intensively on FPS games and MOBA games. However, what worries me is if it’ll stay smooth and shiny because, of course let’s face it, every mouse pad specially the cloth surface mouse pad are very prone to smudges, oils, and sweat. When that happens, we either clean it by washing it or buy a new one. I’m not sure if the smoothness and the shine of the Aegis X4 will remain after washing it.

Personally, I’m a fan of thick and big mouse pad but the dimension of the Aegis X4 might be an issue for some since it’s not like one of those mouse pads that also covers the keyboard area. This mouse pad is very BIG in size and it’ll definitely eat up a space on your table. The Aegis X4 is ideal for an L shape desktop table setup or a kind of setup that the keyboard and mouse has their own table/place.

Overall, Aegis X4 is one of the finest mouse pad out there and the same goes for Aegis X1, X2, and X3. However, although I doubt that it might happen but its smoothness might be an issue for some. I mean, it’s so smooth, a mouse will slide down just by tilting one side of the mouse pad by a few millimeters. Well, in competitive gaming, speed over control matters so I highly doubt that it will be an issue at all. This kind of surface enhances the users response speed rather than control. Why? I found out that with Aegis X4, a gaming mouse with a polling rate set to 1000 reports/second tends to be consistent in performing 900 to 1000Hz when moving the mouse just by a few millimeters which is great.
