Legends of Callasia: The Stoneborne
Legends of Callasia is a turn-based strategy game that you can play either on PC, Mac, Android or even on iOS. Nice! You can find out more about this game before we talk about “The Stoneborne” by checking our review of Legends of Callasia.
But just for a quick recap of the game. Legends of Callasiaย is all about choosing a faction, leading your armies, destroying enemy forces, build cities, conquer kingdoms, and form or break alliances. Addition to that are the usable booster cards that can turn the tide of battle.
The Stoneborne
If you have played Legends of Callasia before, you’re probably one of those people that raised concerns to Boomzap about the Dwarven faction. Back in its early launch, you can only play 3 factions and those are:
- Human faction known as the “The Hundred Kingdoms“
- Mythical creature faction known as the “The Faerborne“
- Undead faction known as the “The Revenant“.
With the introduction of “The Stoneborne” DLC, Boomzap now allows you to play with the Dwarves and rule the kingdom of Callasiaย with them. Although, you have to know that just like other factions, the Dwarves have internal conflicts that dividesย them.
The Stoneborne Campaign
The “The Stoneborne” campaign has a total of 10 missions as of this writing. I was lucky enough to be able to play the “The Stoneborne” campaign. Thanks to Boomzap for providing me a full copy of the game.
The “The Stoneborne” campaign focuses on Dwarven race making their way through enemies. Along their journey, they will meet other heroes that will aid them in their journey. As well as meet other factions like the Orc faction and Cavespawn faction.
The Stoneborne Alliance
Other factions will try to form an alliance with you to defeat your common enemies but be warned. There are instances that you have to chose which faction you will ally with. You have to decide wisely as there are consequences that affectย the overall gameplay for that.
When I was playing, I decided not to ally my dwarven army to any kingdom and the result is devastating. But fortunately, I know what I was doing. Through the campaign, aid will be offered to you if the enemy faction is too strong but in the art of war, there are many ways to defeat strong enemies.
The Stoneborneย Conflict
If you played this campaign, it mostly circles around restoring the glory of the dwarves despite being betrayed by some of their brethren. At the very last mission, you’ll find out that one of the dwarven heroes betrayed his brothers. Sad because that specific hero is my favorite. ๐
Melson is one of the main heroes of this campaign. He will betray you later on for his own personal goal and that is to rule the kingdom of Callasiaย by using a powerful artifact. It is up to you and your new found heroes to stop him and his army. Don’t worry as Orcs and Humans will set aside their differences to aid you in this battle. It’s a hard battle honestly speaking.
The Stoneborneย Gameplay
Like any other factions, the Dwarven race has also six different units available as you build and play through the game. These units will be your main army that will be lead by your heroes.
Unlike other factions that some units that can play melee and range at the same time, the Dwarven units are balanced between melee and range. Their main units have 3 different melee units and 3 different range units.
The Stoneborne Units
Here is a closer look at each unit of the Dwarven race. You can view their main stats and bonuses.
In my own personal experience after playing four different factions. The Stoneborne or the Dwarven race is more of a balance type with strong defensive play style. To be honest with you, I find it very difficult to play an aggressive play style using this faction. I’m not saying this in a pro gamer point of view as I might be missing some crucial point but my opinion is only based on my experience using this faction.
You need to choose the appropriate units for each hero to be able to fully maximize their capabilities and bonuses. For example is Melson. He’s a defensive type of hero that provides an ample amount of bonus if he is fighting within the Dwarfen territories. Otherwise, you’ll find it difficult use him in an aggressive play style.
Final Thoughts…
Legends of Callasia is a great game to play but on the long run, you will start to feel and find what the game lacks. Since it’s fairly a new game, it’s understandable that Boomzap wants it to be a developing game with the help of the community. The best example of that is the first DLC of the game. People wanted and demanded the Dwarven faction so Boomzap gave it to them. I just wished though that Boomzap provides more faction to play with. Just like the Cavespawn and the Orcs.
As for the “The Stoneborne” DLC, if you are not the PVP type of player then the whole game including the DLC will give you a rich story as you play through each campaign. What the game lacks though is a deeper story for each faction and longer campaigns. I alone finished the “The Stoneborne” and the “The Hundred Kingdoms” campaign in less than 7 hours. Well, I guess that’s the case for me since I’m a hardcore gamer ever since but I’m pretty sure that some can even do more than what I can.
Is it worth buying?
Overall, the “The Stoneborne” DLC provided more fun and twist for the Legends of Callasia game. The addition of a new faction and booster random cards that you get and use as you play can really be fun. The use of these cards can even turn a sure death of into a sure win but I wish Boomzap balances the loot rate of these cards. When I was playing through, I am pretty sure that the frequency of gold cards orย neutral cards is too high. Lastly, if you are looking for a well thought and designed strategy game that you can play competitively, then look no further as this game will surely cater and call forth the strategist loving side of you.

Personally, for just US$10 (PHP510), it is definitely worth buying and playing. You can see for yourself just by reading the comments and reviews of this game on Steam. I believe that this game deserves more credit for being a great strategy turn based game. If you still have doubts, why not give the free version a try and see for yourself.

It is. xD It’s the Faeborne faction. Sounds like Fire Born but the faction, units, heroes are nature creatures.
