Zap Zap Kindergarten Math – Overview

Visual Math Interactive, the creators of the well know Zap Zap Math application, is proud to present their newest app called “Zap Zap Kindergarten Math”. This app intends to teach kids aged 3 to 6 about math and to further promote and enhance their mathematical skills.

Zap-Zap-Kindergarten-Math

Zap Zap Kindergarten Math is now available for download on Google Play Store and on Apple App Store. We would like to thank Visual Math Interactive Sdn. Bhd. for inviting us to try this app and providing us a full access to the app for this review.

I have to say that I’m a fan of fun and engaging applications that are educational. Applications that intends to teach lessons while providing entertainment to the user. This is one of the proven ways for me to teach kids and educate them in a fun loving way. We have to admit, it’s not easy to teach math to kids. Especially if they don’t find it interesting.

Zap Zap Kindergarten Math – Lesson Coverage

Every application, especially those that intend to educate and not just entertain, must be planned thoroughly or otherwise, it will not be a successful app. Fortunately, Visual Math Interactive Sdn. Bhd. seems to have that in mind when they designed the Zap Zap Kindergarten Math app. Furthermore, it is good to know that the people behind this apps are Math teachers, mathematicians, and those that place a great value on teaching mathematics to kids.

Zap-Zap-Kindergarten-Math

Of course, we must understand that this app will not teach kids well if played by themselves. The efficiency to teach kids will not be that good if they are left alone to play. This app is designed to be played along with the parents or guardians. With that in mind, here are the topics or lessons that this app covers:

  • Numbers
    • Counting to ten
    • Counting objects
    • Reading numbers
    • Relating numbers to objects
    • Comparing number of objects
    • Reading numbers
    • Counting forward
    • Comparing numbers
  • Shapes and Measurements
    • Identifying 2D and 3D shapes
    • Comparing…
      • Heights
      • Volumes
      • Weights
      • Sizes
    • Identifying shapes
    • Sorting objects
    • Shapes and prepositions
    • Identifying measurements
    • Composing new shapes
  • Add and Subtract
    • Addition and subtraction with objects
    • Numbers bonds
    • Add and subtract within 5
    • Number bonds of 10
    • Number bonds of 11-19

Zap Zap Kindergarten Math – User Experience

Before anything else, we find that the Zap Zap Kindergarten Math app is not really for everyone of all ages. So, we thought to ourselves that as gamers and individuals who don’t have a child or a kid under our care, cannot really give a value or a proper review of this app. Thus, we decided to ask parents and friends who have a kid or a child of their own to actually try the app for a week.

Parents Review – Feedback

We received a mixed feedback from the parents that we asked to test this app for one week. According to them, the app is fun and it really does promote an easy way to learn math, however, they find that some lessons are far too advance or a bit difficult for their child which ranges from 3 to 5 years of age.

They also mentioned that some games are a bit difficult to understand by a kid and parents are having a tough time explaining the mechanics of a certain game to their kids.

Zap-Zap-Kindergarten-Math

On our side, as gamers, we find the app quite decent. We understand the difficulty of the lessons that are a bit advanced. Although for us, that’s a positive thing. According to a study conducted by Greg Duncan, PhD, of Northwestern University, he concluded that…

“Mastery of early math skills predicts not only future math achievement, it also predicts future reading achievement“. they also said, “Research into the importance of early math skills shows that children who are taught math early and learn the basics at a young age are set up for a lifetime of achievement in all aspects of their academic performance. Building more advanced math skills is just one of the areas in which basic math taught early on can make a difference.“

Furthermore, the people behind this app are mathematicians that teach math in Singapore. We all know that Singapore is ranked at or within the top in global comparisons of mathematical ability. Singapore is also admired by the efficiency of their education systems. Thus we told ourselves as we tested the app that the Zap Zap Kindergarten Math app is really something else.

Content

Compared to the bigger Zap Zap Math: K-6 app, the Zap Zap Kindergarten Math is not as rich in terms of content. It’s actually quite a pretty straightforward educational game.

Zap-Zap-Kindergarten-Math

As a start, you have a spaceship that you can use to roam around on the given limited space. Withing that space, there are 3 planets that you can visit. Within these 3 planets, the game will present you with different mathematical lessons in the form of an active visual game.

Zap-Zap-Kindergarten-Math Zap-Zap-Kindergarten-Math

Other than the fun navigatable spaceship, players are also rewarded with a puzzle piece that they need to collect to further unlock the other spaceships.

Zap-Zap-Kindergarten-Math

Completing a puzzle unlocks a different design spaceship that you can use to navigate through space. That’s a way to actively induce the excitement to the kids when playing and learning using this app.

Final Thoughts…

Zap-Zap-Kindergarten-Math

Like it’s big brother app “Zap Zap Math: K-6”, the Zap Zap Kindergarten Math is also a great app and a tool to teach mathematics to kids. It’s a straightforward app, to be honest. There’s nothing much to talk about than it being an educational and fun app. Cheers to Visual Math Interactive Sdn. Bhd. for valuing education and integrating video game with math learning.

Real talk, it really is a great tool to teach kids about math. For me, I think it’s way better than teaching kids using a book. It goes to show that education also evolves along with technology and we need to embrace that. However, you cannot get this app for free. If you want this app, you must pay a small amount of PHP150 which is by far cheaper than buying a book.

Lastly, in my humble opinion and as a user feedback, will I be purchasing this app for my kids? I definitely will. Although I believe that this is not for everyone. We cannot deny that kids do learn in different ways. Some might find this a great tool while some might say that it doesn’t work. Some kids will learn faster using this app while some will learn using a different way. All in all, this is a great app and a teaching tool for math. Thus we award this app a Back2Gaming Recommended Badge.
