Jonas Meyer, the lead render programmer at IO Interactive, made a Twitter post last November 16, 2018 confirming that HITMAN 2 runs on Ubuntu. It’s not an official Linux version but it’s the Windows version of HITMAN 2 running on Ubuntu through Steam Play 2.0. The game currently has 28 reports at ProtonDB and has an overall rating of GOLD.
The Twitter post is a big surprise since IO Interactive is the 1st game developer that have tested their Windows-only PC game on Linux through Steam Play 2.0 and posted about it on social media. It looks like Valve’s recent effort in making Linux a great platform for gaming is getting noticed by established game developers. Feral Interactive brought HITMAN to Linux in February 16, 2017 and we hope that they would be the one to also bring HITMAN 2 to Linux since they are getting really good in implementing Vulkan for Linux games.
