Features

Packaging – Creative SBS A120

The packaging of the Creative SBS A120 is outright plain and simple. It uses the orange white and purple colour theme that creative has been using for their speaker products. The front part of the box highlight the ideal uses of the speakers and the actual design of the speaker. Nothing much can be seen on the right side of the box.

The back of the box features the product description and some marketing statements in five (5) different languages. The back and the left side of the back also highlights the package content. The main specification of the speaker is highlighted at the left side of the box.

Using a cutter, the package can be opened easily after slicing through those tapes that tightly holds the package and preventing it from opening. After opening the box, one layer of carton covering the main speakers will greet you.

Pulling up that carton cover reveals the two speakers and the volume control unit. The two satellite speakers and the volume control unit are covered with plastic to prevent any trivial damages. Such as scratches or light dents.

Taking everything out reveals the subwoofer. The subwoofer is protected and cushioned by a thick layer of carton. It is also covered by plastic to prevent any trivial damages.

Accessories – Creative SBS A120

The Creative SBS A120 doesn’t come with any types of accessories other than a pile of papers such as safety manual, quick guide, and a warranty.

The Creative SBS A120 has three (3) main parts. The satellite speakers, the subwoofer, and the volume control cable.

The Satellite Speakers

Inside the box, there are a total of two (2) satellite speakers. Each speaker uses 2.5 Watts RMS. A total of 5 Watts for the two main speakers.

Each satellite speaker uses an Analog component port. From there, you can already tell that the sound produced will be of Analog type. There are no orietation of the ports or different between the two satellite. They use identical male ports. So interchanging them will not be a problem.

The Subwoofer

The subwoofer of the Creative SBS A120 uses a total power of 4 Watts RMS. The main speaker is located at the bottom of the subwoofer box. The bass reflex port is located at the front of the subwoofer box.

The input ports for the two satellite can be found at the back of the subwoofer.

One stereo jack is also placed at the back as well as the speaker switch and the power cable.

The Volume Control

Fortunately, the volume control cable that connects the speakers to your source is detachable. Promoting users to have their cable management skills be at work. The volume control is small and easy to hold on to. It is also indicated on the volume control where each stereo 3.5mm port goes.

Sound Test – Creative SBS A120

Final Thoughts…

The Creative SBS A120 is definitely a decent speaker for its price. If there’s a “Monitor ng bayan“, then the Creative SBS A120 will be the “Speaker ng bayan“. For the price ranging from ₱799 to 1,199. This speaker definitely is a good value-oriented speaker.

Overall, the loudness is likeable and very satisfying. The audio clarity is excellent at decent levels as well as its bass. However, cracking up the volume reveals the weakness of the speaker. Setting the source at a maximum level and adjusting the speaker volume to mid-high around 40 to 60% already causes the audio quality to waver. The audio produced starts sounding like a broken stereo ready to explode.

In a real-world scenario, you will rarely hit that level or get to that point where the weakness of the speaker starts to show up. TIP: The ideal setting for this speaker is having your source to sit at 80 to 90% volume and adjust the loudness using the speakers’ volume control.
