Pickup up where we left off, Mikasa and Connie are not gonna let Armin just sacrifice himself, so they drag him off intending to take him with them as they escape.

No cadet left behind.
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 1

But wait. Here’s where Armin begins proving his worth. He’s got a plan.

I’ve got a keikaku.
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 2

The plan is to use the rogue titan to clear the other titans attacking HQ, because, well, there’s too many of them. Mikasa and Connie should clear out the titans surrounding the rogue one, so that this one will make a bee line towards the titans  besieging HQ. Sound legit, except the part where this is really just an educated guess on the nature of the rogue titan.

As for the others? Jean rallies the troop, pretty much using the fallen comrades as sufficient distraction for the titans. While the titans are busy eating those who have already fallen, he leads the others forwards…

Go go go!

The others follow.

abandoning anyone else who may get caught by titans…

Leave cadets behind.
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 5

A number of them do make it inside HQ, where the weight of his decision bears on Jean…

A little too late for that…
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 6

only until he sees one of those guys who holed himself inside HQ and gives him a good one.

Punch centric episode, really.
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 7

But well, titans are still outside, and they’re still royally screwed.

Hello there~
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 8

But wait…

That’s a fist.
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 9

Rogue titan has arrived, and he puts up a titan ass whooping clinic.

Hear me roar!

An arm lock!

A punt!
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 12

Mikasa, Armin and Connie soon follow inside HQ, where they begin discussing plans on how to retake the basement where the gas reserves are. Armin draws up a plan involving lowering rifle-equipped cadets to blind and distract the 7 titans underneath, while their best 7 strikers go in for the kill.

I’ve got another keikaku.

And they execute the plan accordingly…

Steady…

Steady…
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 17
Go!
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 18

But Connie and Sasha fail to cut deep enough, needing Mikasa and Annie to give them a helping hand.

Mikasa saving Sasha.

And thus, the cadets are all able to resupply and escape safely. Yey!

Yey!
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 21
Freedom!
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 22

But well, Mikasa and a few more cadets look over the now incapacitated rogue titan, and discuss what exactly should they do about it. Some wants to help it, saying they can uncover the mysteries of titans through this one. Others want to leave now, since titans are enemies nonetheless.

Do we help?
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 23

But the discussion is moot as soon as the abnormal titan who ate Thomas in episode 5 shows up, sending the rogue titan in a frenzy…

Help not needed.
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 24
Indeed.
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 25
Definitely.
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 26

Bam, all titans down, and the rogue one is spent.

He’s out.
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 27

But lo and behold, somethings pops out of the nape of the rogue titan…

Is that…?
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 28

It’s…

Is that…?
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 29

It’s Eren!

He’s alive!
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 30

Cue Mikasa moment, and slow-mo run…

Some people stand in the darkness~ Afraid to step into the light~
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 31

And then… Mikasa x Eren.

Ayii~
Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 8 32

Mikasa~
