Introduction
COLORFUL is slowly making their mark internationally and if you’re someone who’s never dealt with the brand, their Chinese origins may put you off but we’ve worked with the company for over 5 years and their hardware quality has generously improved. If you’ve got a robust retailer behind your purchase like Amazon or Newegg, chances are slim you’ll get left behind post-purchasse and COLORFUL themselves backs their products with industry standard warranty duration. Over here in the Philippines and some parts of Southeast Asia and East Asia have been part of COLORFUL’s internationalization efforts with growing markets in Korea and Vietnam as well the Philippines. Over here at Back2Gaming, we really don’t judge hardware until we’ve put it under the gauntlet and having tested a couple of COLORFUL’s high-end iGame Vulcan X graphics cards, I’ve always wanted to test out their more mainstream offering.
That said, COLORFUL has sent us their mainstream iGame RTX 2070 SUPER Advance OC graphics card aimed at a more general audience who are still discerning and want a more reinforced build and cooling. This has been something that has interested me how good COLORFUL is for their lower-mainstream models as they really do hold a significant chokehold on the Chinese market as the number 1 brand over in China when it comes to GPUs.
With the RTX 2070 SUPER an interesting GPU in itself, it’s going to be nice to see what COLORFUL brings to the table. Read on to find out more!
About the COLORFUL iGame RTX 2070 SUPER Advance OC
For their RTX 2070 SUPER lineup, COLORFUL went a little conservative sticking with only a couple of SKUs like the COLORFUL-branded 8G-V model and then the iGame trio of the RTX 2070 SUPER Advance OC, Vulcan OC and the Vulcan X OC. Focusing on the iGame models, these cards receive moderate overclocks out of the box as well as Turbo options via a Turbo button as well as hefty coolers. The Vulcan X OC are heavily cooled and modified models featuring a nice LCD screen on the side for GIF animations but command a premium as it is COLORFUL’s mainstream flagship. For the Advance OC cards, they receive slight upgrades over the reference card such as, in this case, dual 8-pin PCIE power connectors versus the 6+8 of the reference card. The Advance OC cooler is also quite beefier with 8mm heatpipes transferring heat from the GPU block to the main finstacks. COLORFUL calls this the Silver Shark cooler and covering this cooler is a Kamen Rider-style shroud with a central fan highlighted by a red trim. COLORFUL says its inspired by Iron Man’s arc reactor but given this company’s history with Kamen Rider, one just can’t shake the King Stone vibes from that cooler if you’re a fan of the series. Otherwise, hell yeah Tony Stark.
COLORFUL ships the iGame RTX 2070 SUPER Advance OC with a 1770Mhz boost clock, same as reference. Like its Vulcan X brothers, this card has an overclocked BIOS which kicks the GPU to 1815Mhz.
Enabling OC mode is done with the switch at the back. I’m curious why COLORFUL chose to activate the Turbo mode when the button is RAISED. But yes, the indicator on the bracket, shows that by default, the raised or typically the off-state is Turbo mode and the actuated or pressed state is the Normal mode.

CapFrameX
We’re working with CapFrameX to deliver this review to you. Right now, we’re exploring the viability of CapFrameX from a data collection and presentation perspective and we’re giving it the trial-by-fire approach by using it on this review. This gives us a feel of the workflow as well allowing us to show our readers if the charts are usable enough for sharing and at-a-glance analysis of laypeople. Note: Some proprietary technologies of NVIDIA like PCSS, HBAO+, and HairWorks work on AMD GPU’s BUT to maintain uniformity amongst GPUs, these have been turned OFF.

3DMark Time Spy and GPU Clocks
Here we use a quick round of Time Spy from the latest version of 3DMark to see a relative score of how our graphics card performs. We’ll compare the reference Normal clocked iGame RTX 2070 SUPER Advance against the Turbo mode.
Clock Speeds
Using the same test but in Stress Test form, we capturee the clock speeds of these cards to see how they behave during load. Now temperature really comes to play a big part here so immediately below is our temp chart for this test.
As usual, NVIDIA’s cooler, no matter how good looking, still leaves a lot to be desired. The iGame RTX 2070 SUPER Advance OC’s Silver Shark cooler though does a good job keeping our card under 70*C . You’ll notice that Turbo mode has lower thermals around 3/4 of the way and that’s due to COLORFUL possibly putting fans on a higher profile while in Turbo mode. This does give a slight benefit as you’ll see in the chart below where the iGame RTX 2070 SUPER Advance OC gets a slight Mhz bump.
We do see tight clock speeds during the test and do take note the reference is 1770Mhz boost and Turbo is 1815Mhz, we’re seeing the iGame RTX 2070 SUPER Advance OC go past 1900mhz, seeing a peak of 1950Mhz but pretty much holding at 1910Mhz. These explains the relatively similar score that we saw earlier. This is also the reason that we will also be sticking to Normal mode for the rest of this test.
DOTA 2
Note: JUNE 2020 – DOTA2 has recently implemented a transition from DirectX9 to DirectX11 and new install of the game will prompt users to switch from DX9 to DX11. With that said, we are testing DOTA2 in DX11 from now on.
In contention for the most popular game on Steam and the biggest competition in eSports: DOTA 2 is powered by the Source 2 engine. The game is fairly light on low to medium settings but maxed out, with heavy action on screen especially during clashes, can really stress most systems. This is a game where frame times matter as responsiveness is very important in high-stakes competition. We’re looking at consistently low frametimes in this game for the best experience
Our test uses actual game replay, using the segment from game 5 of the Kiev Major 2017 Grand Finals between OG and VP. The clash during the 54:05 to 55:05 of the game is a nice example of how much a system will get punished during intense team fights in DOTA2.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO)
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, popularly known as CSGO, competes for Steam’s most popular game. It has found a resurgence in its popularity and has recently peaked in 2020 in the number of players that play the game. Based on Valve’s Source Engine, the game received major asset overhauls during the years since its inception nearly 10 years ago. Still, it’s a light game and can be played on fairly lighter systems but the competitive scene for CSGO has seen average players demand high FPS from their systems thus gaining favorable standing with GPU vendors just from the demand for higher FPS alone. CSGO is a game that can easily go past 500FPS on enthusiast systems on maximum settings. We’re including CSGO as requested by our community.

Grand Theft Auto V
The fifth and most successful installment to date in the highly controversial Grand Theft Auto series brings a graphical overhaul to the PC version of GTA V which many have lauded as a superior approach in porting a console game to PC. Featuring large areas and detailing, GTA V is a highly challenging application in terms of scene complexity.
Our benchmark uses a run from Palomina Highlands running through a lush area to a remote road all the way to a neighborhood in our car to simulate multiple scene changes.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare (2019)
Call of Duty Modern Warfare is a reboot of the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare storyline, set in a different world where you, along with Captain Price have to stop the world from going to war. Call of Duty Modern Warfare reignites the franchise by introducing full crossplay support where Xbox and PS4 players can play together with PC players. On PC, the game features a new engine pushing photorealism for COD far beyond what their older engine is capable of. The new engine also introduces raytracing and the AI is designed to perceive light as well. With a revitalized multiplayer arena, the game will require fast frame rates.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne
Easily Capcom’s most successful game to date. Available in both consoles and PC, Monster Hunter World ranks in Steam’s top played games for the platform. The 2020 Iceborne update for PC brings the game to new PC frontier, introducing DirectX 12 support. The game features rich graphical detail settings and an Ultra HD texture pack for highend gamers. MHW’s features fast-paced action with traditional RPG farings and has captured a new market thanks to the transition from portable.
Our benchmark for this game uses an expedition track in the Wildspire Waste Southwest Camp (Area 1) and finishes in the Rathian nest at Area 12 in the caves. This run gives us runs from barren area, to watery area with lush vegetation to a cave which replicates the varied nature of exploration and monster combat in MHW.

Rainbow Six: Siege
Nearly 4 years later and Rainbow Six: Siege has become a phenomenon after a lukewarm beginning. The massive shift in focus of the game sees it stepping into eSports territory and the excellent mix of gameplay mechanics, good design and a dedicated dev team has put R6: Siege in a position it couldn’t even picture during launch. Rainbow Six: Siege focuses heavily on tactical and creative gameplay and its vertical levels and highly destructible maps encourage players to be quick on their feet so the action is always going. Powered by Ubisoft’s own AnvilNext 2.0 engine which powers some of Ubi’s recent visual masterpieces, R6:Siege also feature excellent graphics and can get very taxing at high detail settings. The game also features an Ultra HD texture pack download for those that want higher resolution textures but will of course demand more from the system.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the latest installment in the reboot run of the classic Tomb Raider franchise. The game follows the story set forth by the previous game which Shadow of the Tomb Raider short follows after. Technology-wise, the game uses the Foundation engine updated to meet the demand of developer Eidos Montreal to push the engine to its limits. The game supports DirectX 12 and is one of the launch titles to support RTX technology namely DLSS which launched a couple of months post-launch.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
CD Projekt Red’s latest installment in the Witcher saga features one of the most graphically intense offering the company has to date. As Geralt of Rivia, slay monsters, beasts and men as you unravel the mysteries of your past. Vast worlds and lush sceneries make this game a visual feast and promises to make any system crawl at its highest settings. This game has found great resurgence in its playerbase thanks to the release of Netflix’ Witcher series.

Temperature and Power Draw
To measure both power consumption and heat, we stress the video card and record the peak values for heat and wattage. We use default values on the cards and stress test them using 3DMark Time Spy in 20 loops to simulate gaming loads and this is where we also base our power draw. Our AC wattmeter has a USB interface that allows logging of data which gives us a good average of what draw is during the load scenario.
Similar to some of the previous COLORFUL iGame cards we’ve tested, this card also has a slight power increase over reference.

Let’s break it down for the COLORFUL iGame RTX 2070 SUPER Advance OC-V. First, let’s start off with performance:
Compared to a reference RTX 2070 SUPER, as we’ve seen in the beginning of this review, great cooling really helps in unleashing the performance of this card and while NVIDIA’s really doesn’t allow massive overclocks with any RTX 2070 SUPER, a good cooler will definitely help in keeping your card performing on a high level. Evidently in much of our tests, the COLORFUL iGame RTX 2070 SUPER Advance OC proves to be the superior card even beating out a custom-cooled RTX 2080. Now that’s something I’ve noticed since the SUPER launched but we’ll discuss that in a different topic but do know, the results have been validated. Going back, the Founders Edition RTX 2070 SUPER, its really held back by its cooler and the COLORFUL’s card really shows what a properly cooled RTX 2070 SUPER can do. At 1440p where this card is expected to shine, it does deliver the performance expected from it brings excellent numbers to the fray and even gaming in 4K is highly doable with this card.
Now on the matter of raytracing, while we didn’t test those they are an option and NVIDIA updated DLSS so games that utilize both technologies will definitely enjoy great performance than launch. Still, raytracing has grown since the RTX 2000 cards debuted and regardless of whatever card you used, if you appreciate eye candy, the option is always there. For a card like the COLORFUL iGame RTX 2070 SUPER Advance OC, much like its general performance, thanks to better cooling, you’ll enjoy better framerates with raytracing on with this card and even moreso should DLSS 2.0 is available in your game.
Moving over to looks, the iGame RTX 2070 SUPER Advance OC-V’s signature Silver Shark cooler is definitely a well-built and clean-looking cooler with the industrial touches adding a layed, robust feel to the overall build and holding it in your hand, this card a real beefy boy. The backplate isn’t so inspired and while this may be COLORFUL’s entry model iGame card, the backplate could’ve used some more design ideas instead of just a flat plate.
As a company who has historically used the Kamen Rider Agito, its suspect someone in the company is a fan of Kamen Rider and while they do promote the Energy Core center fan design as Iron Man-inspired from his Arc Reactor, the lighting effects are heavily reminiscent of the Vital Charger’s Kingstone during his henshin sequence. Just a little bit of trivia for fellow Kamen Rider Black fans out there.
Going back, the COLORFUL iGame RTX 2070 SUPER Advance OC is a highly likable card: very good cooling, excellent performance and a simple yet striking design that should blend well with most modern builds. This card is best enjoyed at 1440p, delivering a nice balance of frame rates and eye candy but 240hz seekers can use for 1080p and enjoy it in 4K as well for lighter games like esports shooters e.g. Modern Warfare, Fortnite or Valorant.
The only drawback of this card is that its hard to find, availability isn’t so great outside of China and some markets like South Korea but for their emerging markets like the Philippines or the USA, this card will be seen mostly online and usually out of stock. Prices will range around $600 or past Php30,000, but expect it to be a bit higher due to logistics issues during the pandemic period. Given that though, if you’re trying to stick to a certain budget and you manage to snag one of these, its definitely going to be one of those long term purchases.
In closing, COLORFUL is certainly not holding out when it comes to their entry iGame model and the iGame RTX 2070 SUPER Advance OC-V is definitely a nice direction to go for users that want a sturdy GPU and have grown tired of the ROG Strix or Fajita Dragon design. If you’re lucky enough to spot one in the wild at MSRP and you’re in the market for an RTX 2070 SUPER, the iGame RTX 2070 SUPER Advance OC is definitely an easy recommendation thanks to its beefy cooling and performance backed by quality.
