To coincide with the release of 2011’s Mortal Kombat reboot, also known as MK9 in some circles, Warner Bros. teamed up with Machinima and director Kevin Tancharoen for Mortal Kombat Legacy. It was a web series that examined , or in some cases, re-imagined the origins of a good portion of the MK franchise’s mainstays. It was fairly successful and we here at Back2Gaming enjoyed Tancharoen’s take on the universe.
With that said, Mortal Kombat Legacy is back for a second season, and all I can say for now is it looks like Tancharoen and co. are going to delve into the more supernatural aspects of the games, with characters like Shang Tsung and Raiden showing up. Other characters we can expect to see this season include Liu Kang (who seems to have switched sides), Kung Lao, Kurtis Stryker, Kenshi, Johnny Cage, and Ermac.
The trailer teases a whole bunch of fights, too. If there was any nitpick I had with the first season, it was that there nearly wasn’t enough action as I expected. It still turned out pretty solid, though, so I have faith that it’ll finally deliver on all those fights we’ve been looking forward to since Season 1.
On a final note, yes, your eyes don’t deceive you, that IS Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa returning to his role as Shang Tsung. Other noteworthy mentions are Casper Van Dien of Starship Troopers as Johnny Cage and Dan Southworth (Vergil in Devil May Cry 3/UMVC3, Power Rangers: Time Force).
