Nintendo Hires Bowser

BossMac SubaBy BossMac SubaMay 22, 2015No Comments3 Mins Read

The amount of puns and inside jokes about is just so newsworthy I wonder how Mr. Bowser himself feels about it. We feel Nintendo is just as excited for their press release article itself just can’t contain the amount of Bowser references with the title aloned stating:

Doug Bowser Brings Decades of Experience, Not Fire Breath, to New Role

Doug Bowser is the new Nintendo Vice President of Sales and he wasn’t hired just for his name as the press release title clarifies, but years of experience. Doug Bowser formerly served as the Vice President of Global Business Planning for Electronic Arts and Nintendo most likely considered him for the position because of that and not just because he is named similar to King Koopa himself.

Nintendo is obviously enjoying the coincidence and the internet as well with most posts about the new executive focusing on his namesake rather than the role he will fill. I guess people expect much from him as the boss of the Koopa race more along with his new role but that’s still remains to be seen. For now, we wish Bowser (the executive) all the best in his new job.

If this becomes a trend, I can imagine SEGA looking for an Egghead. I’d add Konami to that but I guess they’re just not in the console business anymore. We are also wondering if Mr. Bowser likes to keep peaches in his drawers, most likely at the last possible one.

Nintendo of America has hired a new Vice President to lead the United States sales organization with a name thatโ€™s well-known in the Mushroom Kingdom. Effective today, Doug Bowser (no relation to the King Koopa and Marioโ€™s longtime nemesis) will oversee a variety of sales-related functions, including Sales, In-store Merchandising, Retail Strategy and Retail Marketing. He will play a key role in driving national sales strategies to generate demand and achieve revenue objectives across all of Nintendoโ€™s product lines. Bowser also will manage Nintendoโ€™s key retail customer relationships and will oversee retail marketing for the Nintendo World store in New York.

Bowser will report to Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of Americaโ€™s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing.

โ€œDoug Bowser is an outstanding addition to our Nintendo team, as he brings a deep blend of both consumer package goods and video game sales experience,โ€ said Moffitt. โ€œI know he will work tirelessly with our internal and external partners to ensure the broad Nintendo product lineup of hardware, software and accessories are strongly represented throughout U.S. retail points of distribution.โ€

Bowser comes to Nintendo from Electronic Arts, where he has worked since 2007, most recently as Vice President of Global Business Planning, a role that made him responsible for EAโ€™s console, PC and mobile game forecasting. Prior to EA, he worked at Procter & Gamble in various sales leadership roles in Asia, Latin America and the U.S.

He attended the University of Utah, where he earned a bachelorโ€™s degree in communications.
