As you will have noticed by now if you have played Fortnite for an extended period of time, Epic Games likes to mix the map up every now and again. Rather than opting for additional maps as seen in other battle royale titles, such as PUBG, Apex Legends and others, Fortnite seems to have stuck with the same map since its inception. That isn’t to say that everything has remained the same however. Over the years, we have seen many, many changes made to the location that resides below the battle bus. For example, many areas have come and gone, others have been altered, whilst there are many that have undergone name changes altogether. Whilst we have seen the game evolve over time with new items, skins, and other features in the Fortnite Item Shop, skins and other features, the map in general always seems to be a hot topic when it comes to new updates. With that in mind, here are some recent changes that have been made during Chapter 2 Season 2.
The Grotto
The latest update does bring about a few changes to the map. We are used to seeing alterations whether big or small, and this season seems to be particularlzy unique. This is because a lot of the map changes are being left to the community, in the sense that a lot of the season is based around the new factions, Shadow and Ghost.
What we have learned so far is that the community has predominantly sided with Shadow instead of Ghost where the Brutus skin is concerned. Each of the new skins are of new agents that have been brought in with Chapter 2 Season 2. Each of these characters has been assigned to a specific area on the map also. Therefore, since players have mainly opted for Shadow for Brutus, you will now find that the Grotto has a Shadow symbol on the nearby cliff.
The Rig
The latest update hasn’t seen any changes to the map that are going to make that much of an impact. One area that has received particular attention however is the Rig. As with the Grotto, there has been a choice made as to which faction has made its mark on the area. From the get-go, you will notice that the Rig has in fact exploded, leading to a significant amount of oil to spill out into the sea.
This may not be much indication at first as to which faction has managed to gain the upper hand in this area. However, once you have arrived here, you will notice that this place of interest is in fact inhabited by Shadow henchmen, which would suggest that its Shadow that has won over the community in this area too. It does seem like there is a running theme as far as Shadow taking over the new areas, though it remains to be seen whether or not Ghost will be making a fightback.
Pleasant Park
Shifting attention away from the newer areas, Pleasant Park has had a slight change in V12.20, particularly with the football field. Where players would normally flock for a quick kickabout, there is now a secret base in that area for you to explore. Here, you will find a helipad, courtesy of the recent introduction of helicopters into the game.
You will find one of the new airborne vehicles spawning here, though it is worth remembering that for the time being, they will only be available in the battle royale mode of the game. There are also Shadow henchmen here to deal with, as well as chests near the entrance for you to loot from.
They may only be minor changes made in the new version of Fortnite, but they are still noteworthy and they also highlight Shadow’s early dominance within the community. It will be interesting to see what Epic Games decides to do next with the map. More Fortnite items, skins and challenges are bound to be coming over the course of the next few weeks, so we will have to wait and see what’s next for the extremely popular battle royale title.
