Conclusion
Tesoro Technology USA Inc., has been into pc gaming peripheral industry for quite some years already and they have been on their own league. The introduction of the Excalibur series signifies that Tesoro is listening to their consumers feedback that demands ergonomic designs to a simplistic and classic ones. The Excalibur line-up may be their entry level in mechanical gaming keyboard industry but it does not mean that the keyboard itself is cheap.
During our closer look of the Excalibur RGB edition, we have seen and felt that the Excalibur RGB edition is of Tesoro’s quality standard. Proving that the keyboard itself is solidly crafted and equipped with tons of features that most of Tesoro’s keyboard has. The only downer of this keyboard is the hub that features 2 usb ports and a mic/audio port if that’s what you want. Tesoro decided to take that hub off so that the Excalibur can maintain its simplistic and classic design but I do think that the hub is helpful in some ways specially if this keyboard is placed in an office instead of a gaming station.
Another downer of this keyboard is the Kailh switches. Some people may not like it , some people does not even know about Kailh switches but Kailh switches are the alternatives of Cherry MX switches. Personally, Kailh switches offers the same performance and tactile feedback of those Cherry MX switches the only difference is Kailh switches are Chinese made.
BossMac’s Notes: As mentioned, Cherry MX and Kailh switches offer almost the same performance in terms of tacticle feedback and response times. The big difference maker here is quality so here’s a little reality check: I’ve had 4 Cherry MX keyboards coming in Blue, Black, and Red and only the black remains working after 3 years. While I don’t personally own Kailh switch-based keyboards, I do know people who do have them and have had theirs still working after 2-3 years. It goes without saying, there’s lots of factors to consider when product endurance is in question but our point here is that regardless of their origin, Tesoro’s switch of choice still offer good value.
The $119 SRP of the Excalibur RGB Edition is still no joke even though that the keyboard is of an entry level but the price is perfect for it being a mechanical gaming keyboard. Although there are other options out there and when it comes to that, it’s a matter of personal preference and fan boys will always be a fan boy.
No doubt that the Tesoro Excalibur RGB Edition is a good mechanical gaming keyboard and the Kailh based switch works well. The Tesoro Excalibur came smartly boxed but not as well packaged as other offerings we’ve seen from Tesoro in the past, with the keyboard wrapped in nothing more than bubble-wrap.
Overall, with an aggressive srp and mastery of craftmanship, we would like to give a the Excalibur RGB Editon a “B2G Recommended” reward.
