The Effects Of Playing Mobile Games While Driving – Are They Causing Car Accidents?

Using your phone while driving is indeed a growing phenomenon that reaches alarming sizes. Playing games is a particularly fun activity, but not one that should be performed by drivers. Studies have shown that the value of video games worldwide increase significantly in the past decade, and it’s expected to grow even further in the coming years. They will surpass over 200 billion US dollars by 2023. The biggest share of this game industry revenue is generated by mobile games.

The Effects Of Playing Mobile Games While Driving – Are They Causing Car Accidents?

However, the use of smartphones while driving is prohibited, as known. But this didn’t stop people from not only using their smartphones while driving but also playing games. Studies made have analyzed driver’s behaviour while driving – the results indicate increased risk of accidents when playing games, especially caused by loss of control of the car and inappropriate lane positioning because of the driver being distracted by the game.

While most nowadays’ drivers know the danger of using smartphones while driving, the temptation of using the phone is higher, leading to accidents on the road. Unfortunately, players and those caught in bad timing have been severely affected. Games are played on smartphones and tablets by adults and kids alike. There’s a vast majority of teens who are dealing with a high accident rate. To prevent the use of phones and driving, public awareness campaigns have been conducted in many countries across the world. Gaming while driving is definitely dangerous.

Mobile games, such as Pokémon Go are amongst the most commonly played by drivers, but not only. Developers of this game specifically warn users to not play while driving, but it’s not just about these games, but also lots of popular apps that cause accidents. Taking selfies, to speed competition games, gaming while driving is now attributed to severe injuries, even death.

The Age of Smartphones

As if computers weren’t good enough. The issue with accessible technology is that not all people know how to use it properly. Getting detached from reality can lead to catastrophes. And since smartphones have become the most essential part of your existence, people have access to more options of amusement than ever before. Unfortunately, it can prove to be dangerous when combined with driving. Even though self-driving cars are becoming a thing right now, they can’t replace humans’ instincts and reflexes.

A particular interest subject is mobile games, which are known to be a very preferred pastime, but incredibly addictive. The more fun a game is, the more it pulls the user to lose control. That’s exactly what makes them dangerous, causing numerous accidents, including cycling accidents. Candy Crush, Fruit Ninja, and Angry Birds can cause people to lose focus of their surroundings and stay immersed in the game. Racing games are also a major cause of distraction since they involved sloping the phone to win the race.

Seek Legal Representation

It is against the law to use your phone and play games. The number of distracted drivers because of gaming while driving is huge, even higher than drunken driving records. A part of the reason is that most drivers eventually admit the fact that they were using the phone while driving. So, the accidents that occur due to distracted driving might actually be underreported. Victims of these accidents can claim compensation against injury damage. There are many law firms that can help victims get proper compensation if their lives have been impacted because of drivers playing mobile games while driving.

Seek legal representation if you believe that someone breached their duty of care for road users or pedestrians. Thus, it may be safe to claim compensation for your injuries if you were involved in an accident. Let’s say that you or someone you love has been injured in an accident caused by a distracted driver. In such cases, you can search for a legal professional to claim compensation for the damages you’ve suffered.

Research has shown that an impressive number of countries suggest that drivers using mobile phones significantly increased in the past two decades. Playing games on your phone while driving is much worse than texting or making phone calls.

Pedestrians Might Admit Fault Sometimes

Car drivers aren’t the ones always causing accidents. Pedestrians need to be very careful in such situations, even when walking on the side of the street, or on a crossing. There have been many situations where pedestrians were involved with these games that they didn’t see the vehicle or bicycle coming near them. If you thought that games are the most dangerous, headphones make everything more complex. Pedestrians should be aware of wearing headphones, as they can’t hear and be aware of the surroundings and save themselves from a catastrophe. Sadly, most of them don’t pay attention and continue to use their headphones to listen to music or play games.

Most of the users are unaware of the danger involved that can happen if they got involved in such accidents. Cellphone accident injuries are the most severe, with the possibility of causing broken bones, fractures, and even deaths. Needless to say, the usage of mobile games and headphones while in traffic should be banned altogether. There are cases in which a driver is accused falsely when the real lies are with the pedestrians who are distracted while walking and playing games, or listening to music loudly.

Mobile games have become the number one leading cause of car accidents. They continue to pose a very potent threat to people’s safety. Mobile games aren’t a threat if played at home, or in a specially arranged place. So, it’s not fair to say that mobile games should be banned, but it would be very effective to heavily reduce playing them while driving. Controlling our habits whilst driving, including cutting the urge to play mobile games, the world would be a totally safer place, with safer roadways to drive and cross.
