To open the year, we asked our readers if they had an upgrade last December 2020 and which part was their most expensive purchase. We check out the results of that poll in this article to see what the majority of you guys had a holiday gift for yourself last 2020. More than 59% of our 200+ respondents answered with yes. So looks like our audience is close to 50/50 with an upgrade for the holidays. Regardless if their PC was recent or not, we’re curious to find out which part was their most expensive purchase.

With NVIDIA releasing the most hyped release they’ve had in a decade, it was expected that GPUs were the most indemand upgrade of the season. At 36.46%, that’s plenty of people upgrading their GPUs but with prices really screwed up recently, its actually a good thing these people upgraded when they did, otherwise they’d have to contend with the insane prices of 2021.
15.6% of our respondents though bought a new PC or overhauled their PC. This is followed by a CPU upgrade with 14.58% of users voting that their most expensive upgrade is their CPU. AMD is doing really good but with their stocks recently being hit with multiple shortages, Intel’s managing to float themselves still.
Surprisingly, the next upgrade is storage. I personally expected a motherboard upgrade would be the third top pick but SSDs seem to be the thing lately as a quick boost in PC performance. With 8.33% of readers voting with a storage upgrade either for capacity or speed, that says a lot about how storage is still a key choice for upgraders.
This is followed by the motherboard upgrade then a keyboard/mouse then monitor and finally a cooler. The last option, aside from the case which nobody chose to change cases, is a power supply. Now I won’t judge but good job everyone if you have a good power supply but if you’re still rocking that Kpop PSU or a generic one, we highly advise you upgrade already. Good PSU are important in making sure your PC is receiving stable power.
